Welcome to sweatersnow.com!  We are your source for information on all things sweater.  This post is about the basic types of sweaters, what fabrics to expect, and what brands are good staples for any wardrobe.  Please feel free to browse around and click on anything you like.  I try to keep this site updated with the latest information but if there is something you want to see please feel free to leave a comment below.  All of the orders on this site are processed through Amazon.com for the best service and the best possible return policy.  With that said, let’s get started!

Cashmere Sweaters

Gotta love cashmere!  This is by far the most luxurious (and expensive) of all sweater fabrics and for good reason.  There is nothing like a good cashmere sweater on a cool fall day and this staple of any high end wardrobe is not likely to go anywhere too soon.  With that said, there are different levels of cashmere but here are some characteristics of all cashmere for sweaters:

  • Wool obtained from cashmere goats
  • Lightweight, soft and incredibly warm
  • Easily spun in to fine yarn and fabric

So why is cashmere so expensive?  The harvesting process and relative scarcity of the product add to the expense.  Cashmere has to go through a lot of processing before it ends up in your closet.  It needs to be sheared from goats, spun in to thread, made in to fabric and then made in to a proper garment.  The other reason cashmere is so expensive is that it is very popular.  High demand raises prices because people are willing to pay to get their hands on it.  Nothing ever died of popularity and cashmere is no exception.  People will continue to buy this textile staple as long as someone is willing to produce it.  Cashmere sweaters represent the top of the food chain and a staple in any wardrobe.  To the right you will see some of my favorite cashmere sweaters with their accompanying latest prices.

Half Zip Sweaters

The best part about a sweater is the ability to layer and the half zip sweater makes this possible.  As anyone from San Francisco can tell you, cool mornings can quickly turn in to warm afternoons and the ability to adapt to the temperature is critical.  To the right you will see a few of the best half zip sweaters that make just the right layering possible.  The best part about these and all half zip sweaters is that they can be worn for a wide variety of occasions.  They can be dressed down when your running errands on a Saturday or they can be dressed up for the office or a night out.  Whatever the occasion, the half zip sweater is a versatile and critical part of any wardrobe.

Most Popular Brands of Half Zip Sweaters Include:

  • Eddie Bauer
  • Lands’ End
  • Columbia
  • Nautica
  • Woolrich

Crew Neck and V-Neck Sweaters

Available in a wide variety of colors, fabrics and patterns, crew neck and v-neck sweaters offer a great deal of warmth and fashion and come at a variety of price points.  Basic sweaters can be found for as little as $20 or less and go on up from there.  Crew neck and v-neck sweaters could be made out of any of the following:

  • Cashmere (see above)
  • Silk
  • Wool
  • Polyester
  • Some level of synthetic
  • A blend of some or all of the above

The important thing about picking from the many available sweaters is to make sure you find something you like so you will be sure to wear it.  The links at right show a few options to get you thinking.  There are many great options out there and everything can be purchased from the comfort of your home.

Best of luck on the shopping adventure!
