There are some things that never go out of style.  Many sweaters fall in to that category.  On the other hand, there are many sweaters that were never in style and wearing them makes them even more ironic.  Whatever your motivation for looking for vintage, make sure you know what to look for and where to find the best deals.  This brief post outlines the best places to look for vintage sweaters.  Below is a link to all vintage sweaters being listed on Amazon.com.  I have purchased from them everal times and have had nothing but good experience with them.  Their inventory changes constantly so take a look there now!

What to look for?

The answer to this question depends on the intent and purpose of you vintage sweater purchase.  Vintage sweaters can be found for several of the more recent decades so the question is what decade are you going for?

Looking for the 1970s?

If you are looking for a 1970s look there are several styles like the one at right available at right.  I have a couple of these sweaters that were used for parties several years ago.  These sweaters never seem to wear out, they just get passed around between disco party goers.

Mad Men Anyone?  Look for 50s – 60s Vintage Sweaters

Vintage sweaters from the 50s are getting harder and harder to find as the years go along.  I have just a few pieces this old in my closet and they make a very regular rotation when the occasion is right.  If you find a vintage sweater you like from the 1950s make sure you hold on to it!  It is a rare find!

Who Can Forget the 80s?

The 80s are known for a lot of things.  Tremendous style and tailored clothing are not one of them.  If you are looking for wild patterns and baggy clothes, look for vintage sweaters from the 80s.  The 1980s were the decade that started the ugly Christmas sweater.  If this is your style you should not have any issue finding exactly what you are looking for.  Sweaters from the 80s are making their way out of closets and in to thrift stores by the thousands every year.
